–The Ultimate Gift–This movie was sad yet happy….like bittersweet in a way. This movie, to me, was intriguing and probably one of the better movies that I’ve seen

Sweet November – its has keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron in it. It’s about a business man obsesed with his job, until he mets this girl who is different for lack of better words. Anyway she tells him to stay with her through the month of november and she will change him. Its a really sad movie and it’s amazing, i really suggest watching it.

There is a lot of movies out so sometimes you think that a film it crap and you see critics gave him a 85 – 90 and guess what in most of the case they are right and the movie is great.

The Sony BDP-S350 is a solid player. However, in my opinion the best Blu-ray player (beside the PS3) is the Panasonic DMP-BD35. It’s cnet’s highest rated stand-alone player. Costco has them for $280-$50 coupon=$230. Not bad for the best player out there.

I believe the Sony plays more DVD formats, but the Panasonic is able to decode both HD audio formats. The Sony can’t decode DTS-HD MA. Though this doesn’t matter if you don’t or won’t have a home theater system.

That said, the PS3 is still the best player out there in my opinion.

If the player is connected to the internet, then it will tell you when a new firmware update is available and ask you if you want to install it. Every BluRay disk is really a computer program. The language is called “BD-Java”. The down-side is the specification was ‘loose’ and newer disks try to take advantage of things that were not well thought out a year ago so some people have problems.

I have not updated my firmware in about 8 months but I have not had problems with any disk so far. Anything you buy today will be updated beyond what I have.

Even if you dont have a ‘good’ internet connection, it’s not hard to down-load and burn the firmware to a CD and they will even mail you a disk if you want.

Remember – you always hear about the problems, but there are millions of people who do not have problems so dont let this sway you.

Sylvania has produced a real winner in this Blu-Ray player! I hooked it up to a 42inch HDTV using the high speed HDMI cable that came with it (a big plus in itself). I connected the audio to my receiver using the coaxial digital output. I turned it on and waited a bit less than a minute for it to power up. I anxiously inserted my first blu-ray disk. It started playing perfectly a about 30 seconds later. The picture and sound are completely outstanding. This could not have been any easier!

I ran it through it’s paces doing various tests (I’m an engineer at heart). Jumping backward and forward between titles was quick and flawless. Pausing and then resuming play was equally flawless. I stopped it and restarted it. It gives you the option to playback from the beginning or to resume where you left off. I chose resume and was very quickly watching it where it left off. Perfect!

Even though it worked perfectly right out of the box, I was curious to check out the menu system. Without even looking at the instructions I found the the setup menu to be very easy and intuitive. I didn’t make any changes since the defaults were all what I would have chosen anyway.

Next, I wanted to try playing back a regular DVD. This unit upscales to 1080p. To my surprise, the picture I saw was actually very close to looking like blu-ray! Wow! This is going to make me want to play a lot of my regular DVDs again. Nevertheless, I’m sure I’ll always want to watch my favorites using Blu-Ray when I have that option.

Finally, I tried playing back a DVD I recorded myself. Again, it played perfectly with no problem at all. Then, I tried a CD and found it to play perfectly. I also tried a CDROM that has jpeg images on it and that too worked showing the images as a slide show and giving me the ability to choose to view a specific image, or to quickly jump between them.

This is really a great bargain for the price. About the only thing it doesn’t do that I would have wanted is to playback mp3 files. But that isn’t really a big deal since I have other ways of playing them.

I absolutely recommend this player – 2 big thumbs up!

First, put the Netflix streaming disk in the Wii. It will tell you to input code at netflix. Login to Netflix on any computer and click on the top right where it says “Your Account & Help”. If there is only one type of PCI IDE controller such as a Nvidia Nforce controller update the driver for it.

The following are examples of how to achieve this as systems may vary.

WIN XP
Click “Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers”.
Right click on the “Nvidia Nforce controller”, then click “Properties”. Click the “Driver” tab, then “Update driver”, then click “next” to install the driver, then click “finish”. When you close the “properties” window it will ask if you want to reboot, click yes. Upon reboot the system will redetect
your IDE devices and may ask to reboot again. When you are finished you will now have in the device manager “primary IDE channel”, “secondary IDE channel”, and “Standard dual channel IDE controller”

You can now enable DMA in the primary and secondary IDE channels by right clicking each, click “properties”, click the “advanced settings” tab, and select “DMA if available” for transfer mode, then click OK. You will again be asked to reboot click no after changing the primary and yes after you change the secondary channel. You should now have WIndows IDE controller installed with DMA on. Hope this helps with your burner.

It’s an unbelievably cool product! I’ve had it for a week now, and it has exceeded my expectations in every area but one. It is such a pleasurable experience to hold it and interact with the machine. It is a very intuitive, tactile, and personalinteraction with the web.

Having a touch screen to interact with the web is a very different experience than using a mouse.
It is NOT supposed to be a netbook, so reviews which compare what it doesn’t have, miss the point.
This is a whole new computing device to accomplish perhaps 80% of what most people use computers for for all the basic uses (email, web surfing, music, movies (the Netflix app rocks!), games, ebook, magazine reading (Zinio is great), and the news (the USA Today app is a joy to use) it is great.

I have already been finding myself on my laptop much less often than before.

The iWork apps are a pleasure to use. The one area that seems to be more convoluted than it should be, is printing. You can’t print directly from it. You have to either email it to yourself, or transfer the file over when you sync with iTunes. But it looks like the 4.0 version of the operating system is going to provide a lot of fixes which people are looking for.

A few years from now, tablets like this will be everywhere, and those who are on computers are mainly using them for work. I knew the iPad would be a big hit when my 70 old mother, after seeing mine, decided she was going to get one too!

As for buying them, you’re best bet for the cheapest price is off eBay where i’ve seen them for $170 shipped or on Amazon.com

I have an iPad 2 and it’s cool but not that great. The iPad 3 is the same but smaller with a better screen and WAY easier to break. Personally I would get a small laptop because it has better capabilities such as flash, better browsers, and the iPad is just for showing off that you can afford one. Btw, Its semi-easy to type on; it depends on the user.
